With an incredible holiday spirit and excitement, the Executive Director, Mrs. Santosh Kumar, and her family members including Mr. Prashant Kumar, Mr. Sagar Kumar, Mrs. Dipangi Kumar, elderly seniors, and staff members at the various sites of Metropolitan Asian Family Servies celebrated the festival of Christmas commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ at the end of December 2023.

To prepare for the special day, seniors spent time decorating the centers with colorful eye-catching Christmas lights and Christmas trees with beautiful ornaments, and mingled about the feast for Christmas celebration day, games to play, gifts to get, and Carols to sing in advance, a week before Christmas.
The seniors and staff members at all the sites, Chicago, Niles, Carol Stream, Schaumburg, Streamwood, Naperville, Elgin, Vernon Hills, and Orland Park enjoyed the Christmas gatherings. The arrival of Santa Claus at each site with gifts to give and Christmas Carols, “jingle bells,” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” to sing and dance made the celebrations magical. Offering gifts and greeting each other, wishing a Merry Christmas with joy and happiness was another great highlight of MAFS Christmas celebrations.  Some seniors and staff played “Sitting Musical Chairs and Passing the Gifts.” When playing the game, many chairs are set up in a rectangular fashion for the seniors to sit on. A few randomly picked out gifts are passed around at a time by them when someone plays music and when the music stops, seniors also stop passing around the gifts, and receive the gifts that they are holding. Another round of this game is played again until all the gifts are given.

For some, the mysterious “Secret Santa” was the way to exchange gifts. With “Secret Santa,” one person is randomly assigned the name of another person and so the gift is bought, keeping in mind the assigned person. The identity of each gift-giver remains secret when gifts are distributed.

Delicious mouth-watering meals with South Asian and American cultural dishes and sweets added the final touch towards the end of the festivities.

Surely, MAFS Christmas was all about eating, drinking, and being Merry with all kinds of jolly-good fun!
